Record Book for Washington's Big Game Animals: First Edition 2001

This is the first edition of the Record Book for Washington's Big Game Animals. Subsequent editions of the record book will be published every four years. There are three separate categories established to record the different methods used to harvest big game animals. They are: Rifle (which include shotgun & handgun), Archery and Black Powder. Another category will record shed antlers. In each of these four categories there are separate listings for each of the big game species.

The first edition of the Record Book for Washington will record categories not listed in other record books, including Columbia whitetail deer, California bighorn sheep, Cascade blacktail and non-typical blacktail. A category was added to record wild turkey; Merriam, Rio Grande and Eastern turkeys will record the beard length, spur length and the National Wild Turkey Federations Official measuring system.

The entries recorded in the first edition have been submitted either by the hunters who harvested these animals, measurers or by their present owners. We cannot list entries from the other big game record books unless that information is submitted to us. Our goal is to compile a complete and accurate Record Book for Washington, if you know of anyone with a quality entry that did not appear in this publication, please have them contact us.

It is our goal to establish and maintain a compete and accurate record book for the recognition of Washington's big game animals and the hunters who pursue them. It is our hope that this book will increase the awareness among the various sporting organizations, so that we become a common voice, dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of hunting for present and future Washingtonians.
